Flooding in Australia

Australia has experienced some extreme weather over the past 6 months. Most recently south east Queensland ended it's drought with a flood.

The wild weather continued down the coast to where I grew up.
Almost 200 schools between Tweed Heads and Evan Heads were closed for risk of being isolated by flood waters.
I hate it when it floods.. It sends people crazy!! While going through Uni in Lismore I worked at Coles (a supermarket), I already hated this job and flood warning made it worse - the food people would buy. Everything from 20 cans of baked beans, spam to enough toilet paper to last at least a year. I thought the smart people were the ones next door at the bottle shop stocking up on beer. What to do in times of flood? Get drunk!!
I hope the rain stops and the sun comes out.
For the people working at coles and woolies.. I feel your pain!!

Autumn/Fall Colours

I spent Sunday arvo with my ipod listening to disco hits and I painted a necklace using warm colours (I'm Australian, I'm keeping the u in colour). I used only watercolour paints and the photos are the results. I'm still sealing them... oh I hate sealing my work, there's got to be a quicker way.

I've been Tagged!!

I was TAGGED by RedPlant. Who has a great etsy shop full of really cool, well made items aswell as funky vintage items. Check her store out.

So here are the rules...
The tag is ALWAYS & NEVERS • list "5 fashion always-es"• {things you always like or cannot do without}• for you personally• conversely, list "5 fashion nevers"• {things you would not be caught dead in}• for you personally• then tag 3 bloggers

ALWAYS
  1. Jewelry - Can never have enough. Not a fan of "fashion silver" though.
  2. Head Bands - My hair is thick and often has a mind of it's own, headbands to the rescue.
  3. Shoes - Thongs (Flip Flops as they are called in America) good for all occasions.
  4. Scarfs - I'm a scarf whore.
  5. Jeans - I live in jeans regardless of the weather. Can never have too many pairs.

NEVER

  1. Overalls - They were great in 1996, now it's time to take them off people.
  2. Socks and Sandals. Do I need to say more?
  3. Festive Xmas T-Shirts and Jumpers.
  4. Wearing UGG boots outside. Uggs are meant to be an indoor shoe.
  5. Over using Fake Tan - Orange skin isn't pretty.

For my tags I have chosen I'm an etsy girl Molly Golightly Cappy Sue

C is for Coupons D is for Design E is for Etsy

New design... I quite like this one. Give me your thoughts, comments I would love to hear them.
Coupons

So I've decided that before I leave America I need to at least use at least ONE coupon. If anyone like me as been living under a rock a coupon is a bit of paper that saves you money. So first step done, I have the Saturday (or as it's called the early Sunday paper) I think they call it this so that they can charge you more. This week it came with double the coupons... I don't see the point of this as one pack is sitting unopen in front of me. Not only did I get double the coupons I got 2 of the same paper! Good for the environment I'm sure.

No such thing as grocery coupons in Australia. Flybuys or a target miracle (when the item is cheaper a the checkout than you thought) is the closet we've come.

So I've heard coupons are great. I even read a few online articles about the tricks and secrets.. no I didn't learn anything. Other than theres a site that has online electronic coupons that you load to cards. Not going to get too far ahead of myself.
I will report back on how I go.
Cheers... do they have coupons for alcohol?????

So I plan to use my coupons during the week. Lets see how I go.

Abstract drawings of Dallas, Texas

I believe that Dallas is a concrete jungle. But this is where I live. At the start of the year I started to draw pictures of where I had visited in America. Last night I started to focus on my drawing of Dallas.
These pictures are abstract - my interpretation of Dallas.

Lino Printing.

I came back from New Orleans on Monday night. I had such a good time filled with music, food, art and of course a few drinks.

Usually when I'm surrounded by art I come home inspired. This time however I came home completely uninspired.

My days are filled with drawing and painting so being uninspired leaves a lot of time to watch daytime tv and being bored.

So I've put the paints aside for a while and pulled out my lino and lino tools. I first started printing in year 7 and it became a focus for my mayor year 12 artwork. I love it. When I draw, I know when I've made a mistake. With lino printing the mistakes aren't known until you print it.

I drew the design back in January, it's now May and I've finally made the first cut. As an extra bonus I didn't cut my fingers on this cut. woohoo.

5 minutes in.

Almost finished. Added more detail and then it was time to print.

I recently invested in a printing roller and block paint. Which I forgot about when I printed this opps.

End result:

I started by printing in blue paint. It looked goos, but I like to experiment and couldn't help printing it more and adding more paint. The result looked like blue paint and nothing more. I waited for it to dry and reprinted in gold. When that dried I drew over it and signed.

Thanks for looking.
