Where I live....

Cheetahs live in trees

I've been very lucky to be have chosen in some very beautiful Treasuries lately. I remembered when I first started on Etsy how desperately I wanted to be in one. Well it seems like luck is going my way. This is the latest

I think this may be my first Treasury West. It's a collection of all things light blue.

I've never made a Treasury myself, but I've often wondered if I did what I would call it and I what I would include in my little collection.

Have you gone to Craftopolis? It's a great site for checking if your in a Treasury and when Treasuries will become available so you can make your own.

New in Etsy and Madeit and FREE SHIPPING

Brand Spanking New
I made this today along with a couple more that I will be adding over the next few days.
What makes they brooches special? They are a lot thicker, more layers of felt and they have more of a 3D effect. I love them. They really are attention grabbers.
Both these are up on etsy and madeit.
Free shipping for anything in my store (just mention my blog)

My Creative Space

I've decided to join in the fun. If you want to join click here

My creative space is a bit boring. While guests were over my lounge room became my space. The guests have been gone and I'm still taking over the lounge room.

I started cleaning up my desk today, organising my materials and just trying to make it into a space that gets the creative juices going.
Now I'm distracted by the TV and the cleaning/organising has been pushed to the side.
Below is a photo of the brooch I worked on yesterday,

My mate Sonia came to visit a couple of weeks ago. She currently lives in Darwin but grew up in Tasmania. I don't think I've ever met a person who loves where they grew up more. All we heard for days was "Tassie this....", "Tassie that...", "See I told you Tassie was the best", "Tasmania has some of the best....", "The best beer comes from Tasmania". Get my point.

Sonia LOVES Tasmania so today's blog is for her.

Leather photo album - leathermaps

Tassie Devil Love - Crowbiz

Tassie is a place I really want to holiday. I remember my parents going and loving their photos and the 3kg of chocolate from the Cadbury factory they bought home.

Sonia I love ya mate and for the final time...

Time for Change

Lately I've been spending a lot of time working on my brooches. If you don't believe you should see my lounge room - the floor is covered in beads, felt, cotton etc. But I think the time has come to put the brooches to the side and get out my pens and go back to my first love... drawing.

I've got some good ideas and can't wait to get pen to paper.

Back to the brooches. Today I completed a black, grey and cream... I think I'm dreaming of winter.

I'm not a hot pink kinda girl but I enjoyed stepping outside my comfort zone and making this super sexy, super hot pink brooch

I spent yesterday cutting felt. I cut till I could cut no more.

I had a plan!! To get get 10 brooches cut out on Sunday, stitch beads on Monday and finally on Tuesday take GREAT photos and get them up on my online stores.
Like all good plans this never happened. I got over cutting felt and when I started stitching on beads today I timed myself. 24 minutes... I had done 1/2 a brooch (longer than I thought). I would be interested in how long it takes me to complete a brooch from start to finish (I don't work with any order so this will never happen). I've finished 2 brooches and I've put them on etsy... and now... well I'm over felt and think it's time for a break.
Have a break have a kit kat. If you also need a craft break, here's a virtual Kit Kat.. ENJOY!!!! See you in an hour.

I completed this brooch yesterday. It took 2 goes. When it was first finished I was very proud, went to try it on and noticed the brooch finding was broken, the bit that moves that keeps the pin in and brooch on was missing!! I can't believe I didn't notice. Every brooch I make I check the finding to make sure it works... but the one time I didn't it was broken it didn't.

I did something out of character. Normally I would put the brooch aside and forget about. Instead I unpicked it, got a new finding and finished it. Woohoo.

I also received some lovely feedback

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I bought the purple, cornflower blue and cream and I absolutely love them. This is one very talented artist. She was a dream to work with, giving me updates on the delivery status and options on mailing, etc. These items arrived beautifully and uniquely gift wrapped. I would definitely buy from GemmaJoy again!
Happy Birthday to Scott!!!
Today is his 29th birthday
29 is the new 18

New Brooch Design

Brand new designs available on
Remember all items on etsy can be transferred from etsy to madeit (Aussie shoppers) and vice versa.

Shop Local

It was great to wake up and read that today's Etsy Finds is from the Land Down Under - Australia. I loved looking at all the wonderful items selected by Mike. I only recognised 1 etsy seller - which just tells me that I don't search for Aussie sellers as much as I should.

When I list new items I now tag Australia (usually because by the 14th tag I've run out of ideas). I remember when I was searching for a red brooch to wear to a wedding I searched etsy. I didn't have enough time to get it shipped from overseas and I was hoping that an Aussie would have one, no one did which led me to make my own and get a little more obsessed with brooches (this was before I knew about MadeIt).

Aussie Etsy sellers do you accept Aussie dollars for your goods or not? It's just a question don't be afraid to answer. I know I'm more likely to buy something if I don't get hit with the exchange rate (not so much now as the dollar is high, but if it crashed down to say 0.61 cents the price it was when I moved to America)

Great start to the year

I've reached a conclusion about etsy or madeit...... I've decided on both. I've sold 5 brooches on Etsy and 5 on Madeit within the past month. I've been working hard expanding on my range, I hope to fill both my stores up with different brooches. Just need to take photos etc.
I've attached photos of the brooches I've sold this year, below is my very first custom order. I'm really happy with the way my craft is coming along and even more excited that people want to wear them and give them as gifts.

Give me a push

I went to the cinema last night to see Bran Nue Dae. Fantastic movie!!!!! I don't want to blog too much about it because I want you all to go and see it. I've entered a little competition (my visitors are gone and it's very quiet at my shack), PLEASE GIVE MY KOOMBI A PUSH to help it get to broome. Look above the post and click on the virtual push - it's as easy as that!!!!!!

Let me know if you gave me a push.

I'm back

Our visitors have left and the little beach shack is suddenly very quiet. There's a mountain of washing and the house needs to be cleaned.... but I'm avoiding that like I normally do.

It's been a busy couple of weeks, lots of things to share. Today I've posted some photos from the butcher turn retro shop I wrote about a few weeks good. Unfortunately most of the photos didn't turn out very good

What an Etsy Weekend

I got the biggest surprise when I checked my email on Sunday. I had sold another item on etsy. I hadn't just sold 1, I had sold 3 brooches. I had only listed these items on Thursday and Friday. I bought the felt on Monday, new colours that I hadn't worked with before (I stood at Spotlight for a long time deciding on whether I should or shouldn't buy more felt).

And for another surprise my chocolate brown brooch is in a treasury. Check it out here

2010 is the year for experimenting and creating

I'm excited

Because my friend Angel arrives tomorrow all the way from Houston, Texas.
When we left America we really hoped that some friends would come and visit us in OZ. A few months back Angel booked her flights! The time has flown, I can't believe we pick her up from Brisbane airport tomorrow!!!!

Now for some photos of Angel
with Captain Morgan at South by South West, Austin, Texas
with G L O R I A (photo taken from her facebook page)

in New York City, Central Park after they had been caught checking out a pile of steel (they work for a steel company, still no excuse)
Seattle - Football game. I don't think that bottle is big enough

OMG I can't find the Pike Place Markets (maybe you had to be there)
1 more sleep!!!!!

Get the pens out it's time to draw...

I've been working on an artwork for a friend. After 6 months of trying and failing I think it's done!!

These 3 pictures will be chop up in 12 pieces and put into 3 frames. They are getting photocopied today so that if they don't look any good I will not have wasted my drawings.

I think this artwork will need a bit of tweaking when I get my hands on the frames. Fingers crossed it works out... if not, it's back to the drawing board.

I've been busy this morning making these new flowers.
Trying to add new designs to my etsy store.

I love getting positive feedback on items I sell through etsy. This morning I received
"Gorgeous! Have gotten so many compliments. Almost didn't want to give it away."
Made my day!!

Days of the Week

I'm looking for some inspiration on a Wednesday night. My fave is Wednesday.

There's a real lack of items based on days of the week. There were lots of items that came up in the search results that had nothing to do with days of the week - sneaky etsy people.

I was in a chat room today and there was a big chat about people taking other people's ideas - isn't it just sad!!!!

Last night I started experimenting with flower looming. It really was an experiment because I didn't read the instructions and ended up with a big tangled mess.
This is a photo of the second attempt, the first... well lets not talk about the first.
Today I'm going to read the instructions and continue experimenting

New Brooch Design

I've been experimenting with new brooch designs. I've been busy cutting, stitching, gluing and making a big mess. These new designs have more volume and really POP when worn.

I just added these two to my Etsy store.
A reminder that I'm clearing 2009 stock, so go and check it out!

Once in a blue moon...

My desk is clean!!

Having friends visit is all the inspiration I needed.
