Friendship

I was reading an article in this months frankie and I haven't stopped thinking about it. I can't remember the name of the article or the person who wrote it (and I'm far to lazy to pick it up and flick through it). What grabbed my attention was a comment about being "a sometimes friend".

Since I've moved back from the states I think I've become a "sometimes friend". This is the first place I have ever lived where I don't have a friend that I could call to go and have lunch or even have a coffee with.

I have friends at home (which is an hours drive south), friends in the NT, friends overseas, friends all over the place... but no friends here.

So I think that I'm a sometimes friend.

New

My etsy and madeit sales have been no existent!! Today I've added 6 new items... hopefully more range = more views. It doesn't matter I will continue to craft regardless of sales... but sales are nice. I'm waiting for the day where I see a stranger wearing something I've made!!

To have a closer look at these items check out my madeit store. These new items start at $4!!

My Creative Space

I've had a bit of crafters block lately. I've been stressed about my art lessons at school and I think this has soaked up all of my crafty inspiration.

So this week I pulled out the brooches I made when I was in Birmingham, Alabama. We were there for weeks for Scotts work, it rained most of the time and I got a cold. So I was stuck in the motel room for hours watching tv and making brooches. These are some of the first brooches I made

Some of the brooches are cut out and not stitched together yet. One is getting a makeover from materials I got in a swap with KellieChristie. I'm hoping the old brooches will inspire me.

I've tried to do a bit of drawing this week.

Can you tell I was a bit angry when I worked on the drawing below?

And lastly I will share with you a photo of my desk
It is a MESS!!!

Head over to Kootoyoo to check out others peoples creative space!!
P.S. If anyone has any art ideas on the topic "3 little pigs" for Kinder and "Food" for a year 2/3 I would love to hear them.

Lets Find a Cure for Mel

Mel is a friend from school and in 2006 she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer.
Today she started a blog and is in need of people to follow her blog, listen to her story and find out some shocking facts at Ovarian Cancer that every woman needs to know.
So please go and have a look

Crafters Block

I have crafters block!!!
I'm lacking motivation and inspiration.
I thought I would get the creative juices back by;
1. looking at my button collection (I now have a pile of buttons in the middle of my lounge room).
2. Looking at Etsy (this just made me want to buy things).
3. Watching tv... ready steady cook makes me what to eat.. so I've retreated to the bedroom with the laptap.
I better go clean up the buttons and find something on tv that isn't a cooking show.

Before and After

My brooches have had an extreme makeover. Last week I had ideas for experiments and I didn't feel like cutting out felt... so I took apart my brooches and went crazy.
Today I found some motivation and finished the brooches below.
Please enjoy my before and after photos and please leave comments!!!

My Creative Space

My creative space is borrowed today from my very talented kiddies at school. Yesterday was my first day of teaching art on a Wednesday. I had a great day and discovered a lot of talent in my year 6 class.
I started the day in the Kindergarten room. Oh they are so cute... I could just eat them up!! We read a book on dinosaurs (just imagine 15 little kids sitting on the floor totally mesmerised in a book, even the naughty boy). We did dinosaur rubbings. It was adorable! Some kids were concentrating so hard they had their little tongues poking out.

This term I'm focusing on drawing with year 6. There are some really talented kids in this class.

Books for inspiration next week.

I thought I would show you my school bag. I love it. It's a Catherine Manuell travel bag. I bought it in 2006 and it's still going strong. It's been lugged around at school, taken on school camps, travelled overseas and used as an overnight bag. It's a terrific bag for school because it fits a lot of my junk and it has wheels.
To reflect on my day it was great. It was terrific having my own lessons and classes again. Awesome day...even though I wasn't allowed to use the new oil pastels or even take the red or yellow old pastels because they were popular... and I won't mention the glue sticks.
Oh teachers gotta love em!!!!

What a Trip...

Last night I tripped/fell/slipped down the stairs. I'm not sure about which one because it's all a blur.
I may have had a case of karma. Scott had an accident on the stairs during the week and hurt his foot. I updated my facebook status with something like "Scott just fell down the stairs and is now sporting a limp and a kankle".
I didn't hurt my ankle... just every other part of my body. I am amazed at what I achieved. I made contact with the cement and hurt my left hand and both my knees (it's ok my jeans were not damaged). The funny part is I got up from this but had so much forward momentum that I went head first into my neighours fence. My keys went flying through their fence (they are dog sitting a big dog at the moment and I was a little scared), my bag went flying under Scotts car and I landed on the ground between the car and the fence. I burst into tears as I struggled to understand what just happened and where my things were. To make it worse a couple of teenagers walked past and I had flashes of seeing myself on Australia's Funniest Home Videos.
So I should go and check whether I've made a dent in the fence and tell my landlord (who is also my neighbour) it's about bloody time you fix our stairs!!!

The Weekend

I love finding teacher resources for a bargain. Tonight I went to Coles to buy a box of tissues and these caught my eye. These books and flash cards were $1.50. I was so excited!! Sad really when school resources excite me on a Saturday night.

My Creative Space

This is my creative space. I've been working on new brooches... more texture, more body and a little less perfect. These brooches are so close to being finished - the pins are on just need to cover the pins in some felt and they will be completed and ready to be worn.

I've created so many because I went through my brooch collection. I looked at some of the brooches with shock and horror. The brooches I didn't like, I took them apart and went again.

My designs and creativity have come a long way.
I hope you enjoy!!

Exciting news!!

If you don't already know I'm a teacher. I studied primary education for 4 years. Since I finished uni in 2006 I've only taught for 6 months full time in a primary school. The rest of my time has been filled with being a lady of leisure in the USA, casual teaching, teaching yr8 maths to ESL students, year 9 drama and year 7 English and Studies of Society and Environment.

And now for my exciting news as of next week I will be teaching art to kindergarten, year 2/3 and year 6 on Wednesdays for term 1 and with the possibility of all year. So why am I so excited? Because where I live casual teachers are a dime a dozen!! There's lots of competition for work (I know casuals who come in on days they aren't working to go to staff meetings). I also haven't worked since before Xmas and money coming into my account instead of going out is an unknown concept.

So I'm excited and a little nervous. The principal wants me to teach year 6 how to draw... I'm off to find some cool art sites.
